The World

How to read this

There is no campaign. An overarching story exists, but it won't be pushed on you. Events will unfold around you — randomly, organically. What happens next is shaped entirely by how players respond.

The story of this server is written by the people in it.

The Discovery

Earth was already falling apart. Resource wars. Climate collapse. Governments propped up by corporations just to keep the lights on. Blackouts were normal. Food barely resembled food. The oceans were drilled, the orbit was mined, and whole regions were stripped until nothing was left.

On August 21st, 2016, an oil drilling expedition dug into something strange. It blew up the entire operation and left almost no survivors. The few that made it out reported back to their corporation, and that started a snowball effect — before long, every government and corporation on the planet had heard about the incident.

Researched further, the thing they'd hit looked like a tube, with energy travelling rapidly back and forth inside it, almost like a bloodstream. They called them the Earth Veins.

By September 2018, humanity had started tapping them aggressively — with no idea they were part of a ley line network. Corporations raced each other to work out what the Veins were good for and whether they were worth anything at all. What they found was the new renewable energy source.

The Boom

Once the Veins were tapped, the world changed fast.

Eighteen months of the fastest growth in human history, and it cost nothing. The Veins just kept giving.

Governments celebrated the end of the energy crisis. Behind the scenes, corporations and militaries locked down every Vein site on the planet. The resource wars didn't end — they just took a new shape. The world enjoyed abundance while quietly fighting over who controlled it.

Nobody thought to ask what the Veins were actually connected to.

The Collapse

It happened over the course of a week. After being tapped for so long, the Earth Veins destabilized. They exploded, one by one, and opened portals to new places.

Humanity had no idea what had just happened. Soldiers were scrambled. Humans started running incursions and expeditions into the portals as they opened. The first portals led toward completely different realms; later ones — and the breakages in reality that came with them — opened onto alternate dimensions of this world.

The beings living on the other side fought back to defend their homes. To them, humans were invaders, and they did everything they could to push them out — including leaving their realms to fight at the border of the invasion.

Then the ley lines settled, far quicker than it took them to open. A matter of hours. Minutes, even. Those portals have never opened again, and the beings that came through were left stranded in a new world.

The Arrival

They were left scattered, leaderless, and stripped of their homes, their traditions, and in many cases their magic.

Within days, the portals had stopped opening — and everything trapped on this side was furious. They attacked the cities. They killed innocents. They blamed humanity for what had happened, and they were not entirely wrong to.

They were not invincible, and from what could be seen, they were losing strength. But conventional armies could not deal with this threat. Governments needed to move, and move quickly.

On April 3rd, 2020, Project Yellow began: a directive mobilized by the governments of the world to fund and automatically approve any project pertaining to the defense of our world, using collected ley line energy as the fuel and propellant for those projects.

The Response

What followed was the fastest arms race in history, run in the open and funded without question.

Rebel — a group of hacktivists and underground technological researchers that had been hiding in plain sight for years — revealed themselves and offered to help. Quietly, they had been leading weapons research globally for a long time, back when most of the world's governments had put the needs of humankind first and backlogged weapons research entirely. By July they had been institutionalized into a brand new weapons and defense research company, paid billions, and renamed: Revolt.

Meanwhile, bioengineering groups raced to build enhanced humans. Almost all of them failed. The exception was the Meridian program, led by Ethan Striker, which developed a serum that turned people into super soldiers — precise aim, ley line energy manipulation, enhanced combat tactics, superhuman strength. They were incredible. They were magic made a weapon.

On September 25th, 2020, governments mobilized all of it. The Crackdown was indiscriminate: if you were displaying your powers in any way, you would be put down. It didn't matter whether you were doing it to kill someone or to get a laugh out of a little kid. It was the result of pure fear, irrationality, and non-understanding.

Integration

It had basically been war out there, with many dead on both sides. Then the social media campaigns started. People began understanding the visitors, befriending them, defending them — and governments started being pressured into ceasing fire and finding a peaceful solution.

On April 15th, 2021, the governments of the world presented the Xenia Integration Act, a compromise between humankind and the new beings — now referred to as Xenos.

• Humankind would provide shelter for the Xenos and assist with integration into society.
• Humans would push for understanding and study of Xeno topics, to dispel myths and remove fear from society.
• Xenos would be required by law to register in the Xenia database, ensuring destructive or dangerous use of their abilities could be accounted for and punished with jail time.

No species shall be judged by its origin, but by its actions, and its willingness to co-exist.The Xenia Integration Act

It worked better than anyone expected. Police were given the resources to enforce the Act, and by late 2021 even the skies were safe — those who can fly and do it legally file through ATC, so planes and Xenos share the airspace without incident.

Then, on October 3rd, 2023, came the Black Site Breakout. Tired of being experimented on and treated as weapons, a large rebellion broke out among the Super Soldiers. In a single night they fought their way out, killing everyone who tried to stop them — and every record of the people being experimented on was wiped. No database entries. No backups. Nothing. Everyone who escaped that night was found to be registered under a new name and a new life, in records indistinguishable from those of any ordinary citizen.

Revolt were the first under scrutiny, having done things like this before as Rebel. The investigation cleared them completely — and Revolt did not let it go. They sued the government for defamation, damages and legal fees, and with the press running overwhelmingly in their favour they were awarded five billion dollars.

Their stock skyrocketed overnight. All the data in the city runs through Revolt's servers now; they have the most modern infrastructure for it, and they provide countless services to the city and to governments worldwide. A corporate titan of proportions never seen before. People started to resent that, so Revolt answered with more projects that helped society as a whole — better crops, better jobs, automation in nearly everything. The public stayed cautiously optimistic.

The New Normal

The world changed, and everything evolved with it. Xenos formed groups and fought other groups over territory and resources — they had found ways to expand their power, and the places you need to do that became very valuable. These groups resemble gangs very closely. They commit crime and they don't much care who gets hurt. Police do their best to catch them and put them behind bars. It's society as we know it, except there are more explosions involved now.

That gave businesses an idea. People used to fight in the street, and wage war with swords, and eventually all of it became sport — so why not this? The Los Santos Supernatural League was born. Teams register, get a sponsor, and fight in the big ring, televised and sold to the masses. It created celebrities and new millionaires, and somehow it made Xenos look better in the public eye than any campaign had. Crime rates went down. Everyone was happy. Hopefully.

But Xenos kept expressing the want to go home. Researchers worked with them to build machines that could open portals and trace them back to this world, using a Xeno's own energy signature as a kind of GPS. On May 15th, 2025, dozens of Xenos gathered and a portal was attempted. It opened. It looked stable. You could see glimpses of other worlds through it, and a lot of people believed they were going home that night.

Not everything goes as expected. The portal destabilized, and at points it looked as though the different realities were trying to merge with our own. The experiment was halted on the spot — after a great many explosions, massive surges of ley line energy, and a few dozen dead.

What it left behind was an island, where there had been open water. It is not made of anything from this world; as far as anyone can tell it is fragments of other realms, collided together and left sitting off the coast. And it is saturated with ley line energy — far more than anywhere else on Earth, which nobody expected and nobody can explain. Most people just call it The Island. Officially, it's the Collision of the First Excursion.

Two months later, on July 24th, 2025, portals started opening again. Creatures came through by the thousand with no warning, and nobody was ready. Nobody has ever proven why it happened — but very few people believe the timing was a coincidence.

Humans and Xenos had to fight it together, and this time everyone living on this small ball of water managed to. Cities were destroyed and people died, but the threat was stopped. Out of it came the technology to detect these anomalies before they turn dangerous, and the legal framework that lets Xenos enter the portals that open and neutralize whatever is on the other side.

The World Now

On April 28th, 2026, a few of the most important people in the world met at Project Yellow Headquarters. Nick Simms, head of Project Yellow, had called the meeting to explain the state of the world and to propose ways to bring the Xenos more in line and gain a little more control over them.

Per news reports, the facility had issues with a generator and gas piping. It was completely obliterated, killing everyone inside. No traces of Xeno energy, tampering, or foul play were found. The case was dismissed as an accident.

Four months later, the drilling continues. The League sells out. The gangs are still fighting over the good corners. Corporations exploit the chaos, black markets thrive on Vein-infused materials, and the political landscape is fractured, unstable, and deeply uncertain.

Nobody has answered the big questions, and most people have stopped asking.
